James Wright, 23, C/RW, 6'4, 200 lbs
Last Year's Ranking: N/A
This Year's Ranking: 23
James Wright was never quite the scoring machine in junior (his best season was 47 points in 71 games), but he always had a role to play.
One reason he may be a Winnipeg Jet now is his playing time with Jets star winger Evander Kane with the Vancouver Giants.
Another reason – probably the main reason – is his size.
In 38 games last season, Wright notched two goals and added three assists for five points.
After playing 48 games with the Tampa Bay Lightning (they made him a fourth round pick in 2008) and notching five points, Wright is looking for bigger results as a role player in 2013-14.
Wright is high on the Jets depth chart and figures to be a prominent role player on the third and fourth lines – just as in 2012-13.
His size, talent, and youth definitely put him ahead of the likes of veterans Chris Thorburn and other fringe players such as Patrice Cormier and Aaron Gagnon, but he will need to fine tune the more physical aspects of his game.
It isn't known if the Jets want to make him an enforcer or a role player who will kill penalties and make the momentum shifting plays that come from the likes of third and fourth liners.
Wright will have the ability to prove whether he can play a certain role or not in 2013-14.
